What's the point (excuse the pun) of the pointy nose on a board that size, unless it's a gun?

I think that's the whole idea... being a gun anyway.

Isn't it a bit wide/fat/thick for a gun though? Looks more like a massive shortboard to me.

I had a Stewart Colin McPhillips a few years ago, best board I've ever owned, would love to get another one.

I could be wrong, but the pointy nose pushes less water so it is faster. A rounded nose is slower but planes easier for more floatation.

I think it looks like it could be loads of fun. I remember checking out an 11' Skip Frye section connector a few years ago, which was a similar style of board, and I've seen a few clips of him surfing those boards, having a blast.

Looks like the right board if your surfing the north shore.

Otter, That board is way out of my league but I am sure you would have fun on it. It is a nice looking board.

I was thinking about that particular style of board for those days when OHx2 are predominant. It doesn't get that big in San Diego more often than say maybe 2 or 3 times a year, so it's a big chunk of change to lay down for minmal use, but on those truly large days, the traditional longboard just doesn't work very well. At least not if it's spitting lip, dump truck sized tube waves.
