Surfing Waves

I'm getting a Sunset 9'4" soft long board!
Had a few lessons months ago, and decided to get this one.
I like it, price is okay, and local shop.
Can't wait to get back out again, ALOT!
Will be at beaches in Ventura County, Ca. area, mostly at beginner beaches!

Congratulations. You may want to consider going with a fiberglass or an epoxy board. It will give you some room to grow. Most outgrow Soft Tops in a few sessions.

This is hard poly-bottom and EVA rubber type deck.
Not one of those foam boards..I was thinking about getting at SportChalet.

47 yrs old, beginner, I will only be out on weekends and the occasional day off !

That type of board should be good for about a year when you want to start driving the line it becomes a lot more difficult. You can always sell it once you out grow it.

Don't under estimate the amount of time you will spend at the beach. Surfing will consume you. It is truly a lifestyle. I have been at it for a long time. When I was a kid we had our birthday parties at the beach so we could surf. I surf every weekend and at least one day during the week I load the kids in the car and we have a beach picnic. My kids are 5 years old and 7 years old and they both already love to surf.

With all that said I would go with some good old foam and fiberglass. Will last forever, I still paddle out a 1965 G&S on occassion. And you are less likely to outgrow it.

But no matter what you get... HAVE FUN. Maybe I will see you in the line up when I venture up to the fairgrounds.

I'll be sticking to places like Mondo's Cove & Silver Strand
Mostly Mondo's Cove..It's where I took lessons.
Also, another surf website suggest these beaches for beginners.
Not ready for C Street, State Line, maybe even Rincon.
However, I do vist State Line and grab a beer ay Neptunes Nest once in awhile.

I'm thinking your meaning County Line? There's no state border in Ventura County, unless your thinking about cruising down to Mexico and surfing IB or Tijuana Sloughs...

You might want to rethink your decision on your board. I grew up surfing in IB, TJ Sloughs and most points north and south. IB is a fast beach break and it tends to close out when it gets really big. You will find it's a difficult place to learn on a longboard. The silver stand, Coronado or better yet Sunset Cliffs would be better suited to learn in your situation.

Great for supporting your local shop Now go get on that thing and have a blast.

Finally, I'm getting my own board this weekend.
I will be learning this Sunday at Mondo's Cove, in Ventura County, Ca area.
Next item will be a bag and a tailgate rack/holder..all I have right now is bungee cord hold it down.
Anybody local, feel free to keep in touch and maybe we could meet up and and have a few laughs at me trying to stand up! ha ha

Sport Chalet also has the Doyle glass longboards for $399. A bargain in my opinion. It might be a better long term investment. I'm just sayin'...

C Street is probably your best bet. Lots of little peaks all over. Gets blown out in th PM though. I'll be there on Saturday & hopefully Sunday.

Thanks. Yes, of course I will keep in touch wioth surf report go when there are waves.
Already planning on other local spots and in the future may bring the board to work and go afterwards.
Anyhow, change of subject: anyone here ever go/been to the C Street Longboard Contest in Ventura, Ca?
It's in Sept (15-16th ?)
