Surfing Waves

hey people i'm a newbie surfer and just wanted to know what kind of "brand new" board i should get. I was told to get one at least 8ft and a foam, but if I know that I'll be surfing for a while, shouldn't i invest in one that i can use down the way more?

depends on your height, weight, how often you'll be going and of course... bank balance.
