Hi ladies and gents,
I've been keeping up with all your stories and finally decided to log in and say hello!

I've been casting my eye out for a new longboard for a few months now and i'm about to buy this one - not a great pic, but it's a 9 6" McTavish Fireball. I've not riden a McTavish or a fireball before, but i'm pretty damn excited about climbing on board this baby!
Ooohhhhh yeeeehhhhh!!!!

I see a lot of guys riding those here in NZ. And a lot of them charge on them in all kinds of waves. They're sweet boards.

It's great to hear so many positive comments about the Fireball - i wandered around Braunton for a few hours as well as scouring the interent - and the Fireball took my fancy. I had heard it was a good board, but makes me feel pretty good to hear it from fellow longboarders. The guy in the shop wasn't lying it seems!

I'll send an update when i've had my first ride after it's arrived in a couple of weeks. How about your boards - what do you prefer to ride and why?

Depends on the waves, my 9'6" noserider is good in gutless or small waves, and still fun in fatter waves up to head high, nice and cruisey, swings through turns nicely.

My 9'3"*23 1/2 single fin all rounder is my board of choice most days, does it all, can handle solid waves, loose enough for beachies, and great for nose riding and turns on points, and gets up into the lip well.

I've got a 9'1" progressive tri fin too, don't ride it that often, but whenever I do, it's a blast, like being a kid again.

Then there's my 7'4" super fish. Still trying to re-learn that. Getting a few waves on it, but not enjoying them as much as on a longboard, so it's only getting used for a half hour or so at the end of a good session.

Hey Hang11, where abouts in NZ are you from? I spent 9 months out there and had a great time in raglan - surfed the beach break there, but spotted a fantastic left hand point break up the coast a bit, looking down from the cliffs - mana point or something? Looked to be a good 8ft or more!

I lived in Wellington most of the time though, so was surfing at Lyle bay (often messy, not great) and occasionally around Castle Point.

That would be Manu Bay - it's where the footage in the endless summer was filmed, lovely wave, gets busy though.

I'm in Christchurch, on the South Island. Great place to live, less people, millions of sheep  but a bit chilly this time of year.
