ive got between 200-250 dollars and i was wondering what the chances were of me picking of a good used nose rider thats not all beat to hell. i rode my friends longboard and almost hanged 10 after a few trys, so i have to get me a longboard. i already have a skeg laying around so id just need some side bites and a bigger leash. do my chances look good for finding a nice old log?

For $200 - $250 I would think the only thing you could pick up is a beaten up board. If you want a good used board I would think your going to need to at least double those numbers.

try craigslist.org, mostly used shortboards, occassionally a good deal on a used longboard.

My friend picked up an old bing at the pomona swap meet in california for like 60bucks around 7 years ago. We couldn't believe it when he brought it home . He was so lucky when he got it. That board was an awesome noserider. It got stolen a few years back  damn thieves. Sometimes you get lucky and will find a great deal on a used board.

Try Willis Bros. (google)... They're in San Diego and are pretty cool to deal with. They give surf lessons for a living and shape. They're twin's that spent a lot of time on North shore of Hawaii. One of them was rated as a pretty good shaper at one point. I've heard that they used to shape for a lot of pro's but got discouraged when they didn't get any credit due to the power of sponsorship (basically they shaped the boards but sponsors insisted on the Pro riders they sponsored to slap their name on the board)... Anyhoo, I got a sweet board, 10', from them and again they're pretty cool to deal with from my experience. However YOU MUST HAGGLE with them.

My friend sold a very very nice one for 275 the other day, and I didn't know!

He said I should have thrown him an offer, so it's not his fault. But I would've soaked that one up real quick!

i was going to suggest that, i have picked up many of surfboards that way and have been very happy with them.

a few times i even gave them my drivers license to hold onto while i tried it out for a couple hours..
