Ummmm as long as you know which spots to hit. Cliffs is not kind to beginers on bigger days

Otherwise its an epic place to surf as long as its working. You can get pristine surf there great for all boards. Just mind the rocks thats all

^I use to surf there in the 70's and 80's. There were (2) places I liked. One was Chasums and the other was News. I remember climbing down some steep cliffs to a beach that sometimes wasn't there. Great place with kelp beds to keep it nice and glassy.

del mar jetty right?

i know i'm askin a little too much but there probably aren't really any "less crowded" longboard spots here in oceanside/n.diego county area right? or any where near here? like Onofre, packed bro...talkin like 150+ surfers in the water...damn! is this what i gotta expect out here? i'm used to the low volume here on del mar jetty/pendleton, or churchs like some call it..laterz

I'd head up to the San O beaches before going to DMJ's. DMJ's is more of a shortboard break. At San O, you'll find Churches, Old Man's and Dogpatch. The Mecca of Surfing. Trestles is north of San O, north of the campground on Pendleton, also a fine break.
Watch out for Cliffs on a larger day at low tide, can be a real bone cruncher.
Church's is at San O, not to be confused with DMJ's.
If you like a nice Longboard wave you can head to Pipes, just south of Swami's in Encinitas, or Tourmaline in N. Pacific Beach.
