i ride a 9' longboard and becuase i used to short board i still paddel up the front of the board, and when the wave jaks up some times the nose dips under, but i rented out a turbo tunnel for a week, and it stopped the nose dipping under, but i couldnt paddel as fast so i didnt catch quite a few of the waves. does anyone know why and also does anyone use a turbo tunnel on their longboard?

Not sure about the turbo tunnel, but...I'm in a similar situation using a 9'8".

Tips when not using the turbo tunnel...

I'm not sure about you board positioning. From what you wrote you may need to move back a little. However, you may just need to sit a little deeper and paddle a little sooner. I've had the same problem on waves that I tried to take off on too late. You probably just need to get into the waves earlier. It seems to me that everything involved with longboarding takes more time. Such as starting your turns earlier and ending them earlier as well. My first real "successful" bottom turn carried me right off the top of the wave . When you find yourself a little inside on waves that might be a little bigger or jack up on you, try angling more on the take-off to help prevent your pearling problem.

I use tunnels of our own design nearly all the time.

The key factor with tunnels is the tail rocker of the board and the angle they are set up at in relation to the bottom. . . . these factors will determine most of the influence which the tunnel has on the board.

Step one is to check that the tunnel is running EXACTLY parallel to the bottom of the board.

There's more if you would like to know about it.

Hello Hiphopdec,

No blackspot (currently!), just forgot my password for a while. The trees are all good, got a stack of paulownia and a new board called the "Squid' under construction. HTMl isn't working here or I would post you a picture.

:)
