The "Centipede"...

Postby XiloRider » Thu Aug 26, 2021 2:47 am

Just noticed this weird technique that a couple people do at my local break. As they are scratching for a wave and starting to lag behind, they undulate their bodies to scoot forward on the board. If you're familiar with breakdancing, it looks like the "centipede" dance move.

Looks a little odd and dolphin-like, but seems to be effective. Just wondering if anybody has noticed long boarders doing this? Is it a "legit" technique? Does it have a name?

Thanks

No, because as you said they're scratching for waves and the waves are rolling under them / passing them by, so they are taken steps to try to get back on.

The easier remedy would to have moved their chest up an inch forward before they even began to paddle. Not push water on the paddle and then try to make up for it later.

Yes, I've seen two people doing it. It looks incredibly stupid.

It's preheat routines for Pro surfers
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

That's what I've been focusing on. I'll just stick to that I think.
