9”6 Longboard has fcs 1 fin boxes ?

Postby Willsm65 » Sun Feb 28, 2021 6:51 pm

I’m looking to buy a longboard coming up from a foamy and I’m looking at the alder salt longboard in 9”6 but I’ve seen it comes with a fsc 1 tri-fin set up , is this normal as I can’t see to find any longboard fins for fsc1 ?

With the FCS fin plugs they are not leaving much choice for genuine longboard centre fins. Not a odd choice for variability.
Look for a suitable board in your price range and favoured shape that offers a longboard centre fin box and a 2+ 1 set up much more versatility..
Have fun choosing and surfing, .

A tip post a picture of what you are considering, we can help! :D

Is there a advantage to the tri fin set up over the 2+1 or should I just stay clear ? Also my budget is up to 600 but that has to include fins , I’ve been offered the salt longboard at 530 with fins

Your current sponge board probably had a 3 fin set up ( albeit made of plastic/rubber ), so the change won't be as bad as changing to a single fin set up. Maybe on your 2nd board purchase you can go for a 2+1 set up. Then you can use it as a single fin if you want to start trying a more classical noseriding style. But for now if you feel it's a good price, then go for it. It won't be your last board purchase.

By the way, where is the board made ?

Just the flexibility of being able to try different fin set ups, but what Waikikichan suggests is a good way to go until you are clear on what you want from your surfing

Is there any fins that you would suggest to get with the board as I’ve heard fcs 1 fins tend to snap if you go too big

Who told you that or could you point out the article or website that stated that ?

For a interesting experiment, trying laying the 3 most common FCS fins on top of each other to see the difference. M3 on top of M5 on top of M7.

On a side note, you could set up that board as a Twin-Stabi set up with two XL side and one tiny trailer. Look for the FCS MR.TX. I run those and never “snapped” them off surfing.

I heard it on a YouTube video , think it was “ISURFTRIBE” when he’s talking about each fin group set , I think I’ll get the board and just play around with it , thank you for the help tho
