fun board to longboard

Hey!
I'm getting back to surfing regularly after taking years off with little kids that need moms attention. I've been going out a couple of times a week. I've used an 8'0" stewart for last 15 years. My board has been through a lot and it's time for this mama to upgrade and maybe hit some longboard goals. I was planning to get an 9' board. I went into Almond surfboards and considering getting their 9'0 (or was it 9'2"?) brand new, custom-ish. They also had a used 9'6". I've never ridden larger than 9'2". I'm 5'6" 145 lbs, fit female.

Two questions:
- Is the jump from 9'0" to 9'6" meaningful? I could save $$ and buy a used 9'6" they have, it just seemed HUGE compared to me 8'0". I dream of walking but at this point I'm not doing that.
-I used to borrow a 9'2" more "performance" styled board and LOVED it. Should I still consider something like that or keep it simple with a more standard round nose board?

Thank you in advance for your wisdom!

Think of how you will carry it, a 9'6 is usually fatter and wider, and thus weighs more and, sometimes, doesn't fin under your arm. But, a 9'6 will catch waves easier, more volume, and usually resells for more.
