Is this acceptable? I paid over $800 for a new, custom 9'6" longboard. I noticed it while I was waxing it, straight after bringing it home from the shop. It's brand new, never ridden.
There's a couple tiny, almost microscopic holes and three oddly looking circular shaped blobs.

Let’s cover a few things, was the board custom made especially for your needs and specifications?
If you talked it out with the shaper , go back and get a redcoat on the tail, as it is a really vulnerable area where those defect will not withstand normal wear and tear.
If you bought it off the rack it is not custom, but made to the specification of some name person’s design.
But still take it back and see if they offer an explanation and or remedy!
A good thing to do before you put your cash on the checkout, check the goods especially the rails , nose and tail.

The main things I would worry about is those spots they may well be sand thoughts gloss coated out!

Oh and put a picture of the logo, I am assuming a Made in China itself a custom.

Actually no. This was locally shaped in NY Long Island. Custom, specifically for me.

That’s good news it is a genuine custom then , head back and talk to the shaper!

Yeah talk to the shaper and congratulations on getting a custom made board. I love my custom made boards.

I'm no expert but that looks like shoddy workmanship. Ive never made a board but I do know a little about composite materials, and what I see there is inconsistency in the matrix and contaminants in the resin. Of course it's not like a structural component in an airplane wing or something, but I'm sure you paid a lot for it and deserve a quality product

Wonder, sometimes you get pin hole bubbles when applying resin. Here's what this Old Guy would do: 1) contact shaper and transmit the shared photo and some additional photos, 2) ask sharper what he thinks, 3) I'd pretty much presume this is no biggie, 4) I'd ask shaper if ok to wet sand with 220 grit paper or finer & then smear some resin on it really smoothly so it can't be seen, 5) dispense of 1 and 2 and just do it. Or maybe, just maybe, I'd visit the shaper with board to inquire what he thinks. Additionally and, maybe you did this, I'd visit the shaper before taking the issue to the internet. It's only fair to give a good man a chance.

I went back. They're gonna put an extra layer of glassing over it and I think call it a day. Should be fine, right?

They're also giving me $150 off a future board.

It's good that they want your future business. Hopefully you will learn more about your shaper and they will learn more about you and a fruitful future full of wonderful boards will result.

Good outcome but where's the drama? What did the shaper actually say? Any explanation of how it happened, how it was missed, what it represents? Good on you for using local shapers but (as you see) being local doesn't make one a genius or even good. Good at shapes and good glassing craftsmanship don't necessarily go together either.
I've been fortunate as far as I can tell with the three I've ordered from, including one who I later realized was just really getting his chops down, but I think I got a 'good one' among them, and I talk them up, when people ask, which they do.. it's good you went back not only for your purposes but so you can report to others the good follow-up.

Also how do you like the board? Just in time for hurricane season, which is already better than last year's and we're hopefully just ramping up... Apologies to the insufficiently battened-down down South
