Hi and welcome! One of the best longboarder on the forum would tell you that it is possible with any board if you have the right set of skills! That won't be me though, I can't noseride even with the right board.

Not sure why would you want to get a gun for nose riding though? Aren't they usually for bigger waves with a pointy nose?

1) Do you mean you're intending to get a custom shape board made for you ?
If so are you talking about:
a) actual GUN, big wave rhino chaser
b) FUN GUN, which is a wider template big guy / step up board
c) pulled in nose and tail progressive longboard
d) All in one board like the Rusty Desert Island

2) Or you found a Gun board for sale, that you hope you can also noseride ?

3) How good are you at noseriding currently ?

Nose riding and gun
Not usually/ easily done.
Guns for big surf are the right board
with speed for survival
that can't be ignored.
i say to you, thats how it goes.
Without skills to dangle your toes
you don't have the calibre
to stand on the nose.

A quality longboard can handle it large,
if you have good skills it isn't a barge,
You are listening to sales talk with gimmicks and tricks
Saying what you are lacking , their board will fix.

I nose ride my 8 foot fungun usually on small waves or sometimes just to keep moving on a wave that has gone flat or to get back down the face when I get stuck at the top of the wave. Sometimes on smaller waves I am sure the tail comes out of the water because I can feel it and that doesn't seem to matter because I just step back on the board and bring the tail down but most of the time I just cruise along. There is a considerable nose rocker in my 8 foot fungun but if it put the nose in the right place it seems to all work right. The right place is where the wave transitions from horizontal to vertical. However on riding waves that have enough room and speed to make some turns you won't see me nose riding (except if I get stuck at the top). For me nose riding isn't a style thing it's a functional thing.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Then the answer is NO. Since your skills suck.

If you learn to read the wave, control your board and speed, have patience and timing, know how to stall and lock the tail and cross step properly ................ then Yes, someone with those skills CAN nose ride that 7'4".

Why do you want to noseride anyways ? Can you give two good reasons ?

I always enjoyed staying in the sea, be it swimming or just staying since I was a child, but I did not have much opportunity to access. I see the noseriding as a more fluid and "calm" way like "stay at sea only" and enjoy. That is why I am interested, and I think it is more beautiful. As I said my access is not easy, so carrying a very large board is tough, because I do not have where to leave, I have to ask for help or always rent one.

I think you may be mistaking "noseriding" as "CLASSIC" surfing. Noseriding is a part of Classic surfing, as oppose to the more rip, shred aggressive " PROGRESSIVE " modern surfing. Both can be done on longer and shorter boards, it just depends on your mindset and approach.

Watch this video of Kelia Moniz as she does the dance with the wave.

Fast forward to 1:00 mark.

I posted this somewhere else before, but it’s so cool I figured I’d post again. Also because a very good friend of mine did the music for it!

PS, WKK, how do you embed the video like that?

When you reply, there's blue boxes to attach things. 2nd from the right is Youtube and 3rd from the right is Vimeo.
Screenshot 2018-08-28 at 9.39.36 AM.png

( but then you have to take away all the http stuff and just put only the actual video info in the space provided )
So Kelia's video is this YouTube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSJPZ_DQooo[/YouTube if you copy and paste the address between the Youtube words. That won't work. You need to take away everything leading up to the "C". Sometimes I forget to take away the " v= " part and the video doesn't load .
