Hello guys. New surfer and new longboarder. I’ve been surfing every weekend for a year and a half. I’m still very new at this and learning. I started on my cousins 7’6 funboard. I’ve been catching some waves, but I’m having a difficult time catching the wave.
I was talking to a friend about it and she gave me an old 10ft long board that she no longer uses. It’s a single fin, really nice one. She told me I’d have more fun learning on that until I’m better. I’m 5’10 and weigh 136lbs. Is this too big for me? Is it going to work? I was going to buy a 9ft foamie, but she said “why buy one when this one is free”. Thoughts?
Thank you for the advice.

The proof is on the pudding as they say. Go try it and see. If it works good for you then great and if not then you can always buy a 9 foot foamie.

Question: who knows you and your surfing ability better ? Us here on this international forum who’ve never met you OR your friend ?
Advice......... listen to your friend. If she/he didn’t think if it was appropriate or safe for you to use, he/she wouldn’t have let you use it.

If you really get into the sport, then that board won't be your last. Go out and have fun with it.

Listen to your friend; what do you know about too big or too small anyway right? You are just learning! Follow the advice of your friend....get that board wet and I have the feeling you will see they were right.
