Does anyone have trouble with stepping on their leashes?? I seem to do a lot...I never used a leash in the old days, and am not used to it...I scramble all the time for waves, am always moving and it seems the leash is ALWAYS in the way..I hate leashes...is it just ME??? :?:

Definately can be a pain in the bum on a longboard. You can get ones that attatch around your knee which lifts the actual leash up higher and out the way. My mates swear by them but as yet I havent tried em.

My understanding is that a sponger floats around on a rubber tube usually getting in the way of everything/one. One rung lower than a bodyboarder basically.

i keep my leash on the inside of my leg, meaning i keep that swivel between my ankles so it doesn't bug me so much. woot, other than that im just gonna get a shorter leash since i dont cross step or anything on a longboard

I have a few leashes & I find that if one trips you up just try another one for awhile. Also, I had a new leash for a while that was really nice, buit somehow it always ended up under my foot when I poppep up! So I let a buddy of mine borrow it & somehow ever since I got it back it's been fine.

maybe its just me but if you wear it with a wettie, it shreds it and if you wear it without, it shreds your skin!

Make sure you'r swivles are well oiled and any time you dismount your board in the water make sure you do it on the same side your leash hangs off of. Left foot-left side/right foot-right side. This will keep your leash from becoming coiled up behind and underneath you. I have the same f-ing problem and somtimes I could just rip it off. Especialy when it spoils a realy good ride.

I can't get on with ankle leashes and used to have the same problem with knee leashes until I discovered it was the exposed velro that was causing the problem. I turned the leash arround so that the exposed bit of velcro with the hooks was facing the front - now the bit that does the damage is covered with wax after the first couple of surfs, after which it can be worn any way without causing shredded skin or wettie.

My leash was giving me problem. It sometimes curled around my rear foot and sometimes I stepped on them.

It was because I tied the leash around the rear of the board after surfing as many surfers did. And my leash was like all twisted after a while. I don't tie the leash around the board anymore and It doesn't give me problem since.

I've only been out a few times and I already hate my leash too! I put it on tight but it usaully manages to get in the way when I pop up. I've tried the knee thing but I didnt like the way it felt :(

Kinda old post but whatever-

if you leave your leash wrapped around your fins like most people do, it will get memory, and curl up when you go to the nose.

but yeah, leashes are a pain, but nothing is worse then wearing a leash and then your leash loop coming off, making the whole leash absolutley worthless :x

chasing your board wave after wave is not fun

Possible problem is kinks or tangles in the leash. Check out my video on the subject. Works every time.

I have a knee leash, but it always loosens and falls down. I like to keep it with swivel on the backside of my ankle, but I still trip on it, on my failed attempts at cross stepping.

Where are you putting your knee leash near your knee, the calf muscle should have enough bulk to stop slippage, if the the leash is done up properly, if you use an ankle leash as a knee leash the size of your leg will open the Velcro.
The leash should go between the back of your kneeand the increased diameter of your Calf muscle. Swivel outwards.
Ankle leash I always put the swivel pointing outwards from my ankle.
Another and interesting solution is using a waistbelt with quick release catch and the leash is attached to a loop on the back of the belt.
Quite a few guys with hip or knee replacements use this method successfully. It is also the safest way of being attached to your board if you go river surfing
