Hi Emily, at what level, domyou surf because there are some pretty good longboard surf beaches in southern NSW northern VIC. Not so much.
Also where are you heading from?
Reason i ask is there are some highly populated spots during the Chritsmas madness that are great but severely lacking in etiquette and awareness in that madness, could you cope?
Some too are fickle ranging from double underhead to double overhead. Many too are unpatrolled.
Talk a little about your surfing and the forumites will offer suggestions.
There are also breaks that have a good crew of welcoming women whomsurf well

Thanks for replying.

Well this is a bit lame but I’m asking for my husband.. I’m wanting to research a bit as we will be time poor. We’re road tripping from the Central Coast but will be on our way back from VIC heading north when stopping for surf.

I would say he’s intermediate, or perhaps a bit better than that. We’re happy with patrolled and unpatrolled beaches, busy or not.

Hope to be asking for myself next time :D

Ok , the north of Victoria, Mallacoota Bastion Point and Lakes Entrance although Lakes has strong currents at Bass Strait Level at Times.
Nothing until North of Eden, try Pambula and Merimbula , bring patience and manners, the crew will accommodate you.

Merimbula is a little like the Box on the Cental Coast, you could hit Tathra a little further north sort of Avocaish, take the coast road to Bermagui the are some side roads that have good potential.
Narooma has Dalmeny and Moruya has surf at both ends of a long beach Broulee at the northern end.
Try Green Island if your husband is goofy. Ulladulla has quite a few spots depending on swell and a large capable crew on anything going..
Consider the Gong a bit like the Lake Macquarie area to Newcastle coast, duck in and out to see what gives.

There are several good surfspots of Australia Guides out there, ( late Christmas present perhaps) often shows places I wouldn’t share on the Forum

A lot of these places are very close to the highway - Mollymook Beach is literally 60 seconds from the highway. Others are a bit further - bendalong is about 15 min. But most beaches along this area have some surf and longboarding is pretty popular

Of course for the last week the biggest wave has been maybe chest high so...
