just got back from Sri Lanka...lovely and warm, where my boards were waxed up with Basecoat and then Tropical on top. Back here in the UK
now and it's a bit cold and I really dunno if I can muster up the energy to take all the tropical wax off and re do it with cold water wax...
What's the worst that can happen?
Anyone know?

I don't think it matters? It's only bad when you start using cold wax during summer as they come off very quickly. I never redo the wax during winter months.

I think the worst that can happen is that it gets too slippery. If that is the case, I think you can put some coldwater wax on top - it should be softer.

I bought some Sex Wax the other day and asked for a bar of base coat. They handed me a bar of the tropical wax. I told my wax tender that I needed cold water wax and he said the tropical wax was the base coat. It also said tropical/base coat on the box. I don't think it's a big deal.

Go surf it, you’ll find out. My boards from Hawaii, all had tropical wax. First take off in Japan, I looped out backwards or later did the splits.

You asked the very same question 2 years ago when you came back from Sri Lanka. You mean to say you’ve never changed out the wax ?

to work properly wax needs to be 'just' soft enough. Too hard and its solid and you slip off; too soft and its soft and mushy

the different temp waxes just have different softness at different temps. So use the wrong wax and you will find out - its not a 'hard line' but it will start getting mushy or too hard

but hard wax (ie tropical) is good as a base coat, because you dont want your base coat being soft (otherwise you have slippery stuff on top of an unstable base).
