Need advice for first longboard shopping

Postby riki652 » Sat Aug 19, 2017 2:46 am

I want to buy a longboard, in fact my first one. And I'm stuck between 2, one is a RAM longboard, the other is Mercer.
Pls don't start harassing me because the Mercer is sold mainly in Zumiez. They're both drop through trucks and reverse kingpin.
Which one do you thing would be better, both are same price. I like the design of the Mercer more but RAM seems more legit since they have more info and come with ABEC9 bearings instead of ABEC5 in the Mercer.
Please advise me what to buy.

Or you can look here for the best choice, must be under 85€ and has to be square so I don't get any wheel bite, plus squared ones look nicer.

Hate to tell you this and I won't harass you this is a surfing forum and most of the content is about surfing on all sorts of surfboards short, medium and long in the ocean. Your trucks won't cope.

The forum over all is called "Surfing Waves" might be a clue there

I would go with the Mercer.
1) it has the "square" look your fond of.
2) it may have Abec5's, but bearings are cheaper to replace than the deck and trucks.

( plus bearing don't do well in salt water anyways, so you'll be needing to replace them much sooner )

As a beginner always buy a 9+ footer as a first longboard..

I'd get the one I felt better about or one whose specs and ride I agree with/like. Since you don't know the board, get the one you like the look of the best.....I am betting they ride nearly the same.

Consider a knee leash so you can walk the nose without it. Ring in the way..... ;)

Does Surfing-Waves need a link to Silverfish Longboarding (skateboarding) website???

NO, because if they don't know the difference between a Surfing forum and a Skating forum, they shouldn't be out on the streets anyways. "What does S - T - O - P mean ? " "Hmmmm...Is it Red or Green that means Go ?"

I came here because silverfish forum has a problem with their server and wouldn't let me register. So I thought you guys here would be of any help.
And yes, I did confuse longboard (surf board) with skate longboard.
