I am 6'4'' tall and around 320lbs. I was a college football player so I am still athletic and have reasonable balance. I am planning on moving to the coast and really want to start surfing. Is it possible for me to a get a board big enough for me and if so how big?

Start out on a longboard (9-10 ft) and then if you want to start going shorter you can. When people tell you that big guys cant ride a shortboard dont listen, its all about the volume of it. If this guy in the pic can ride a shortboard, anyone can.

I'm over six foot and broad - I aint no lightweight!

And I ride a 6'6

So, yes, its possible... But I'd start on something longer!

Ya its real, i saw a whole sequence of him surfing. That means that no fat people have an excuse when they say that shortboards dont float them.

That pic was unreal! I put it in my favorites...Yes, definitely start on a big board, you need a tank...like maybe an 11 footer, and really thick, 3.8 inches or so...no joke, you will catch a lot of waves and be more inspired to stick with it.
