Hi,

I have practice Gnaraloo fatty 84 a begginer sofboard (width 23.5) for 45 days and getting good rights and left in upto 4-5 foot. Trying to Switch to hardboard NSP 86 (width 22 5/8) more light board however since trying NSP 86 having difficulties with right and left, any advice for a board which is not so fat like Gnaraloo and not so light and narrow like the NSP 86, something in between?

I'm 5'9 (180cm), wide weight 165 pound (75 kg).

Currently in Sri Lanka.

Thanks

Tried NSP 96 it's a tank moving slow... in NSP 86 when lying on the board and puddling im not balanced, so my timing to catch a wave is not good enought in a bigger board where is stable i have a perfect time to pop up and catch a wave.

I have a 9'6" tolhurst in surftech tuflite construction.....not too far away from that NSP and by no means a tank....I would think that you should be able to sort that 8'6"; it will take a bit since it isn't as wide but it's wide enough if you've gotten some basics down with the first board....if you could go both ways up to 5ft on the first board then it won't be long before you do the same on the 8'6", but it might take another 45 days (which isn't that long).....if you didn't like the size of the 9'6" I'd try to make that 8'6" work or split the difference and try a 9' x 23.

Thanks,
Altough I do not like the nsp 86, I'm making rights and lefts already and getting better with nsp 86, however not always im balanced while paddling and also while sitting on the board (shaking from right to left). not much choices in renting a different board.
im not sure if its the weight or the width which make more balance while paddling, i have a feeling.. i need something around 7'4-8'6 in length but want a wide board around 23.

Then that shows it is NOT the board it's you. If you rock side to side just sitting on the board, it's your legs trying to hook the board and your core being stiff/unstable. When you're paddling, I suspect you also wrap the rail with you feet, is that happening ?

Today checked:

nsp 8'6 - 3 - 22 5/8 - 69 liter
nsp 8'2 - 3 3/16 - 22 1/16 - 67 liter
and
nsp 7'10'' - 22 1/16 - 3 1/16 - 57 liter (which is categorized as funboard not a longboard)

Most Comfortable for paddling and balance was the nsp 8'2 - 3 3/16 - 22 1/16 - 67 liter
I guess the thickness is important, I like to paddle as fast as possible so i have good timing to catch the wave.
I hope i can find a better board which will enable me more fast paddling and more balance.
In 5-6 days a 7-9 foot waves suppose to come, should be interesting.
