Skateboard Cross Training?

I live about 1.5 hour's drive from the ocean and can only make it into the water once a month. I'm swimming for paddle fitness and thinking about getting a skateboard to practice turns, cross stepping and balance. Does this make sense or am I :unuts: ?

1.5h from the water or right next to it...I sit 150m from the water's edge at the moment and ride one of these daily....helps with my surfing for sure, balance, body positioning and sequencing, musculature but most of all it's just fun on it's own. I ride a Carver; highly recommended or something similar like a Smoothstar skateboard (AUS & European distribution). Will definitely help maintain your stoke in those dry periods.

You sold me. Now I have to explain to Santa Claus why a 64 year old man needs a carve board!

I found more cross training videos but couldn't embed them. How did you do that?
