Depends on whether you are a 5'nothing woman of 88lbs or a 6'3" once in shape former linebacker weighing in at 260lbs....

I've seen videos of guys hanging five on fish boards...usually nose riders are bigger than what you described but you haven't described you so I can't really say....however per marketing jargon, longboards usually fall into "high performance" category which means relatively thin (less than 3" thick), relatively narrow (less than 23" wide) and higher rockered/more foiled, less overall volume than a board of a similar length described in literature as a nose rider.....but again, if you're a small person.......

"Is my longboard the right size ....... " for what ?
For noseriding ? Can you knee paddle the board ? If yes, it should be stable enough to noseride. ( Although I wouldn't recommend a pin tail if you can't trim, stall, and lock in the tail )
For competition? Depends, most longboard contest the minimum length is 9'0". Although there are some contest that go by the 3 feet over your head rule.

"but for the time being I really do want this board to work out for me." - you only rode it twice in not so good conditions. Give it time and learn the board. After talking to the staff, you decided to buy it, so why don't you go ask them about your 2nd thoughts on the board.

"Any insight at all would be super appreciated". Like Big H said, you haven't explained enough or there's not enough info to give an opinion. But I wonder why you purchased a 8'10" when you knew you'll be doing contest that require 9'0" ?

I am curious as to why you ask this question AFTER you bought the board and why if you are going to compete you didn't get a board that meets the competition requirements straight up to put in the practice!

It's just so dumb I'm not even curious why someone inquires after they purchase something.
