Single fin - box fit

Postby actechy » Fri Aug 07, 2015 11:49 pm

Hey folks,

I'm swapping out my single fin to try out an FCS Fatboy fin. I've done some sanding on the fin for fit, but it's not looking like it's going to fit flush with the fin box (depth wise). See below:

It almost seems its too wide between the knob and where the base of the fin starts?

I was under the impression that center fin box dimensions were all more or less identical, so I'm not sure what my problem is. I've only sanded on the sides, so maybe I'm missing something. This other fin fits just fine:

Any help? Thanks!!

Get the Trueames Velzy fin and stand it upright. Then put the FCS fin next to it. It bet the FCS pin is set lower. I noticed in the shop they were made deeper.

Another thing is the fin boxes are more or less the same width and height when they're made. But when they get installed in the shaped blank, depending on the thickness of the tail, it get sanded down to match the curvature. So there's less area above the slot where the pin sits.

If you want to invest the time, you can sand the depth of the fin down and reset the pin. but I don't think it's worth the hassle.
