My Side bites are stuck in the box?

Postby racheljablonski » Sat Jul 18, 2015 3:25 am

I took the screws out with a fcs fin key and all the screws are out but they just won't budge. I have heard that I should put oil on them and try and use a hammer to get them out but I feel like I am going to break the fin. Any suggestions?

Use a hammer and you could well multiply the problem by breaking the tags and having them stuck in the plugs or worse still if they are really stuck you might break the plug out of the board.
Try WD40 or a spray lubricant and a pair of grips to gently lever the fins back and forth.
There is still a risk you may loosen the plugs so go at it persistently and gently allow a little time for the lubricant to ease the tightness a bit. Put some of the lubricant down the screw holes.
DO NOT LEVER SIDE TO SIDE that will crack the plugs out.

Pour slightly warm tap water from the sink over the fins. Wrap a towel around the fin and hold with one hand...hit the one hand with the other with a blow from tail toward the nose....hit firmly but not violently...this is what they do at the shop I go to and since they showed me I've been able to break out stuck fins without drama. Cheers.
