Can you Nose Ride with a broken leg ?

Postby waikikikichan » Sun May 10, 2015 10:23 pm

Doctor told me no surfing for 3 months after I broke my leg. Hawaiian Noseriding Classic contest was in 5 weeks. No refunds for cancellations. Might as well do it.

You seemed happy...or were you trying to influence the judges?

Do noseriding contests have judging based on, for example, hand position or not moving along the board or anything like that? ie style points? do you have to practice putting your hands in the right place etc?

Your back foot, the tape line 24 inches back from the tip of the nose and the judges stop watch. That's all there is. Some surfers squat, some hold the wave, some put their hands up. It doesn't matter, style doesn't count, just time on the nose. This was at the Hawaiian Noseriding Classic, which may have different rules than other noseriding contest.

I was fully stoked. Before that guys were coming up to me to buy my slot, since the contest entries was full and they knew I broke my leg and couldn't surf. I was planning on just paddling out, lay on my stomach for 15 minutes, paddle in and get my contest shirt. But something "clicked", and I started to "believe".

Hang five or ten on that for minute Waikikikichan, your avatar picture shows you with a cast boot from previous times :!:

So are you talking about a previous contest, or having developed a new strategy of breaking your leg before a current contest.

So your best foot forward, the broken one or the other.

I can't even nose ride with 2 working legs. I wouldn't mind breaking a leg if that is what is cost to do a hang five!

The contest and my broken leg was in 2010. However I just recently converted the video from the old camcorder to digital. My first ever Youtube post. Little grainy and shakey

I don't know if I can but obviously waikikichan can and not only that but win the contest too. Awesome!
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

That heat was in the In-the-Pink division where all contestant used the same board which was a Donald Takayama Hawaiian Pro Designs ITP.
I had the second highest time, but it's judge on best top 3 times. My two back up scores weren't good. Got 5th. But it gave me confidence for my age division heats.
