After 20 minutes or so of surfing, my booties always fill up with water and get real heavy...

What should I do about this? I just bought them this year

Are your bootie tops inside or outside of your wetsuit?

This always happens after a while. The only thing you can do is get a tight fitting pair that allow less water in.

Where do you surf? Do you really REALLY need them? What about sock type booties without the undersole?

I wear top of the booties inside my wetsuit...I surf in Jersey and have taken a 3 month hiatus due to winter weather.

I will return to surfing in Jersey in 1 month - and will be needing a 4/3, booties, gloves, and maybe a hood

What about something like that but without the undersole part? When i wear these types, i wear medium and I am a size 10. Nice and snug. If you have to walk over rocks a lot, these may not last very long...

The water around me is really cold so I also wear booties. I had the problem with my old pair that they would fill up with ice cold water now and then. I bought ones with velcro straps at the top. The go on the outside of my wet suit and are pretty good, or as good as your ganna get.

Ive been using xcel boots and never had them fill with water; you can get them pretty cheap on ebay.

How do you wear them?
As in do you put the ankle part under your suite or have it on top of the wetsuit.
When I was leaning I kept thinking it had to be over the suit and water would be loaded in the boot after a few hours. Switched to having it under the suit and now it never fills.

Yup.. Suit OVER boot!! If you're still getting waterlogged your bootsies are too big for your tootsies

Suit over boots.

I have two pair of surf shoes. 5mm boots, and a pair of surf shoes.
I only use the boots when it's really cold, otherwise the shoes are my favorite.

Old post I know, but couple of other points I didn't see mentioned by anyone else, boots could save you a nasty weaver fish sting on a beach break and also with a good grippy sole you don't need to wax your board - win- win.
(wet suit over boot and tight velcro strap works)

Hi , I had same problem , I now use rip curl split toe boots, awesome there really comfy and stay tight to the foot, which helps with pop ups .
Hope this helps

I'm a size 11.5 shoe (US) but always buy size 10 booties. They fit tight so no water, but they always stretch when wet so not uncomfotable at all. Try buying a size down.

I have some reef shoes I wear sometimes (sorry...can't relate to suits and boots)....they got a little old and before I took them to get repaired there was a hole in each big toe....thinking about pulling off the patch because that hole seemed to make all the difference as now my shoes fill up with water and get heavy so I defo have to paddle with them above the surface. Maybe I'll cut holes between the toes.
