Noseriding

What up fellas!?

Alright, so I'm pretty new on a longboard. (Just started surfing 4 months ago).

But I've been going out alot, and have really seen my skills improve alot lately.

I'm popping up no prob now, am able to do some nice turns, and am shifting my weight & body from the front to the back of the board effectively in order to help me keep with waves.

Now, the last surfing sesh I had I decided to try and start learning to nose ride. I was able to get my front foot about 6" from the tip of the nose, but any more weight forward and I'd fall / lose the wave.

So, what advice do you experts have?

Am I trying a difficult skill too early?

Let me know fellas, thanks! :D :D :D

JBirddd, never too early to be on the nose! Next step is going out a lot, which you are doing. Work on getting the skill of cross stepping to the nose, it keeps the board more balanced on the wave, a shuffle to the nose works but is prone to being unbalanced and breaks the glide.
How much do you weigh :?: The more you weigh the more you have to rely on skill.
Your board has to suck, learn to set the tail so that wave is creating some suction on the tail, a wider tail enhances your chances of setting the tail,.
You can set the tail by a back foot stall ( putting pressure on the tail so the board stalls and the nose rises), then begin your cross stepping forward, proceed to the point where you feel balanced on the nose, anywhere from 10 over to 3/4 forward be prepared to cross step back.
Learn to woggle, standing forward by wiggling your hips and lower body you can break a rail free and side slide the board into a steeper part of the face curve and then re-engage the rail whilst still on the nose.

Other variants a stalling bottom turn driving somewhat up the wave and then setting the tail and walking forward

Helpful hint watch old movies of Phil Edwards and Miki Dora at Malibu doing all this through the zoo. Try the techniques repeatedly, succeed and enjoy

Other good'uns are Alex Knost and Joel Tudor. Watch the Duct Tape Invitational events too. They're neat.

Mellow man, mellow.
