McTavish Fireball size

Postby 40tude » Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:27 pm

Let me start by saying I am a beginner and am 6'2" and 200 lbs. I have found a great deal on a McTavish 9' Fireball in town, but am wondering if it is just too small for me, or if it would hold me back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If its the GSI slx version (rather than the hand made one from the McT factory), I know its marketed as suitable intermediates/advanced up to 80kg, but its 9'1x22 7/8 x 2 7/8 and said to be 68.8 ltr in volume, so its pretty much a normal size for a longboard and doesnt seem to have excessive rocker or thinned rails or anything. I mean, GSI market their 9ft Walden board - at 70ltr volume - as suitable for 85kg/187lb+. So I'm not really sure why the Fireball is for under 80kg and the almost identically sized Walden is for over 85kg.

Anyway, it should be suitable for a 200lb learner. It may not be 'the best' but its definitely a much better choice than most boards. If its a good deal then go for it.
