longboard for grom

my 12 year old son ( 5ft 4, about 8 stone) has been surfing a while and recently got into longboarding: he's currently surfing an old 8ft minimal of mine which is on its last legs and now has some money saved to get his own board. Think he needs something cruisy but manoevrable and that he can handle when its a bit bigger ( only talking head high!) Any advice on size, dimensions or make greatly appreciated.

From what you say: Stay with the length for now but aim towards a performance 'board. This he will be able to thrash around more as he improves and (rapidly) grows in his own physical size!

my $00.02
