Hey im new to the whole surfing life and the choice of boards is BEWILDERING! As im 6foot2 6 foot 3 ish and way knocking on 17 stone i think long boards are the only choice right? However the lack of control seems to put me off a lil and really want a mini mal just for that extra control. Am i right to think this way? What options are availble to me?? PLEASE HELP! :?

Welcome to the world of surfing, whether you choose a longboard or a mini mal it won't be the board that is hard to control but the surf who won't have the control.

The advice is simple, especially for a guy your size, bigger is better, easier to paddle, easier to catch waves and strangely enough easier to control, you have more control when you can generate speed, have a real good read of all the long boarding advice and choose for yourself.

Longboard.

My father in-law is about your size and surfs a 9'6 longboard.

It will be easier for you overall.

Enjoy!

Really, IMHO I'd go something over 9ft, but the BIC is in the that'll almost do category.

I think your liking for the Viking is a better sized board, Sven you get it in the surf you'll be a Bjorn again surfer.

That one if the brand is well known will float your boat.
UK surfers might advise here!
