Surfing Waves

Im new to surfing and have been borrowing my friends shortboard. I hate it. But ive got to use a longboard a couple of times and Love it. So im saving up for a longboard. I found a meyerhoffer for a decent price but i dont know if theyre suitable for beginners or not. I know theyre not traditionanol boards but they get good reviews by everyone who uses them.

Hiya, you are absolutely right to question your board selection . Meyerhoffers are fantastic boards but I would say not good for beginners.When you first start surfing you need a durable,fairly flat bottomed board, with good length and width for stability.The idea is to catch as many waves as possible as I'm sure you know .
The Meyerhoffers are not flat bottomed,narrow in the centre and are pin tailed so for a beginner not the most stable platform for you to learn on.They are also quite brittle (I have a few really experienced friends that have broken them)Beginners are notorious for dinging up boards so you need something that will take a few hits lol.They love the boards so replaced with the same but I would advise you go for a 10ft malibu with a width of about 22 to 24 inches(Watercooled,Walden,or NSP would all be good choices).Once you have become adept at using that board move on to the 'hoffer' .With your shortboard and new longboard experience you will find a meyerhoffer a lot more fun.
It's always good to have a goal and what better than the motivation of getting yourself a new Meyerhoffer when you think you're up for it.I hope that helps stay stoked you'll be on one in no time;)

it seems really in really good condition even though its only 8' long instead of 10'. although it can't be worse the 6'1'' lol.

First time in surfing I still rent a surfboard and plan to buy my own when I am already master in surfing.

I agree about the brittle comment. The are incredibly fragile. Mine broke in half the 2nd time I used it.
