OK first of all I'm a 28 year old 160 lbs Texan....secondly I've been a shortboarder all my life. But here in Texas the small days outnumber the big days so I'm ready to get my first longboard.....I'm realy wanting to be able to bust out some noserides but still be able to manuever a lil bit and not have a sluggish board. I'm looking in the 9'2" range....does that sound about right? So far here at my local surf shops I really like the McTavish Fireball Evolution, the Robert August Wingnut, or the Walden Magic......
Any suggestions between these three or anything else?? Waste high days are commonplace here...what are y'alls thoughts?
Thanks for having me!

I have surfed the McTavish and the Robert August and I definately would choose the McTavish. I surfed one for about 3 months in Maui and really liked it. I dont nose ride though so I could not give you any advice on the nose riding ride of either. I thought the fireball was a fun board to ride, turned well whereas the Robert August was not as easy to turn, more of a down the line, not to responsive etc. I surfed a 10' Robert August and I think a 9'4" or 9'6" (cant remember) McTavish. The fireball was a bit shorter so that may have been why I liked it ?? If it were me I would choose the McTavish............

well I found a stellar deal on a 9'0" Robert August "What I Ride" model.....$750 for a brand new poly.....hopefully it's just what they describe it as....a good all around board

I'm far from an expert on the relative characteristics of longboards, but I surf the Texas coast and have seen a number of folks riding the WIR and doing just fine. Those, Waldens, Stewarts, McTavishes, Takayamas all seem to be pretty popular. I would imagine that will work fine for you.

Like the McTavish the best of the 3, make sure it is not a knockoff and is glassed properly!
