Hi all, after sifting through some of the previous i couldn't find an answer for this so was wondering if you could help

i have a 9'6" board and when i put it on the rack im always worried it will get damaged if i drive to fast, so sticking to 60mph max atm, forunately i own an old Volvo 940 estate so got plenty of length, but what is really the max i should have between the forward crossbar and the nose of the board, i keep it no more than a foot at the moment but it means i cant open my boot! can i safetly move ti forwards?

also (sorry) i have a 7'2" mini-mal, how should i stack it on top as i dont want to over tighten the straps and damage either board!

thanks!

A

Id rather hang more over the back than the front. I strap my longboard onto the top of my g/f toyota yaris with them pads...I bought a rack a few years ago to go to cornwall with and it dented the roof on the car....not good....DO NOT GET AN X RACK. They are xxxxx.

Ive got a creatures one now...the place the rear pad on top of the tailgate and the front as far forward as I can get it. I also place 2 inch foam pads under both front and rear then strap the board on. 9'1 Custard point classic. I have 1ft max over the front....and try to hang more over the back to prevent the board flapping up and down.

So I guess the answer was......place more at the back as the wind hits the front. Dont squeeze the xxxxx out of the board either....A little movement will help prevent stress damage.

At motorway speeds having 2ft or more at the front isnt a good idea. I wouldnt chance it. If I had a volvo I wouldnt even put it on the roof...Put it inside.

I drove back one year in a ford KA after buying a new baord while down in Cornwall....I had a 7ft spider thruster but hired a longboard while the spider was getting repaired and things were never the same again....1st wave on a longboard, that was it....I was hooked and HAD to get one.

I came back with both on top of each other in their own bags on the ford ka and.....I would never do it again. I had dings in the shortboard and was pretty miffed, but I had to get both boards back up to Cumbria so I had no choice.

Make sure youve got them fat roof back pads on too and also wrap something around the board before strapping it to the rack...Or even better put it in a 10mm bag like I do

thanks for the tips :D would be nice to put them in the car! my 7'2" no issue but even in the cavernous interior of the 940 estate is not long enough to take my 9'6" lol plus would also mean i cant take anyone with me lol
i know it would be preferable to hang most off the back but if i do i cant open my boot, which i guess im just going to have to put up with the inconvenience!
i have my longboard in a 5mm bag i think it is and my mini-mal in jsut a sock, then i put a towel under the nose of the shorter board to remove the gap that the rocker creates....so been playing around abit...will give your sugestions a go and see where i end up :

thanks man!

Iremember being at perranporth in a carpark 2 years ago while down in Cornwall determined to get a 9'1 inside a toyota yaris....had it out of the back and in every position you can imagine...I reakon its 1 inch too long to get in...typical. I bought the 9'1 a few years ago and wish Id got a 9'6 actually. Not sure I will swap it when I head there again in sept. Maybe. Nothing more frustrating than getting in the water after a year out and trying to deal with it all again...10 times a year just isnt ernough. Even a longboard feels sluggish when I get back in after so long off....Figuring out where the balance point is again.......went to tynemouth last sun and struggled a bit with that again.....am I too far forward or too far back....arhh......The board goes where it likes rather than where I want it to.

anyway..Good luck with the rack thing.
