Surfing Waves

hey is it hard to surf in winter i live near huntington so is it hard in that area for a longboard and hopw tall do the waves usually get

Winter is not a difficult time to surf in California. It's simply the best time!! (yes, I use a 9ft longboard up and down the entire coast -- Winter included. The colder the water is, the better it is. Best Winter day: Caspar Creek in Mendocino County on Christmas day; after 30 minutes in the water you can't feel your feet! HB is much warmer.)

To answer part of your question: No, it's not hard to use a longboard at HB in Winter.

You keep asking all these questions about HB. Are you really surfing or just thinking about it? You just need to surf, dude! By the way, go to the Frog House Surf shop in nearby Newport Beach with some of these questions. You need to develop a local network.

I can't speak for CA, but winter surfing on the east coast is a million times better. not only are the swells amazing, but there is little to no crowd (when the water gets below 40 degrees, you are usually the only surfer out there). my Dewey Weber Stylist single fin can be slow in a big and fast swell. I used to use a 9'6 Stewart tri-fin and that board was extremely quick and perfect for large swells like that. it could get out in front of the lip easily.

I find it the same.... Maybe a bit cooler in the winter. When I am on "dawn patrol" in the winter I ususally wear a vest wet suit. I think the water temp drops from 78-79 degrees in the summer to 76-77 in the winter. I find it a bit cold here in Hawaii during the winter months. But then again, I am not quite sure what the water tempature is ever over here. Normally its a tad bit cold at first then it gets to just right the rest of the session..................... aloha

i was at bolsa chica this morning and it was calm for the most part .... but when the waves did come in it was a blast! i use a 9'3 longboard and it worked just fine
