difference between single vs. tri fins

Hello, i wanted to ask a question regarding surfboard fins and their variations. What's the difference between a single fin and a tri fins. I have a 9' longboard with a single fin set up now and would like to know pros/cons of different fin set up. Thanks for any feedback.
