walden v maurice cole for beginner

Postby APH » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:00 am

Hi, Was after any opinion, advice etc. I'm a 39 yr old beginner 5'11 195 lbs. I currently have a nsp 8'7 fun board which I have sporadic success with. I've tried some 9' - 10' boards with more luck. Am wondering what anyone thinks of the Walden mega magic at 9' x 24" x 4" or a Rip Curl Maurice Cole 9'6 (possibly epoxy) for a beginner. Mainly surf at a point break in smallish waves. I have dodgy shoulders( ac arthritis) so looking for something easily paddled. Have been offered the walden at a reduced price (some pressure dings underneath occured during delivery) so its only marginally dearer than the rip curl board. Any advice?

Never seen or ridden either so hard to say without seeing the shape/rocker etc but the walden at 4" thick has a ton of volume so should paddle well, cant say much from the Rip Curl Maurice Cole sounds liek a perfomance board which without knowing more about it isnt probably what you want.

Go with the log, Walden is a better known board so if you decide you don't like it you will get more for it later.
