Do you feel like shortboarders hate you??

I remember in the 90's the hate that was spewed on me when I would longboard a heavy line up. I have not seen much of this around So Cal in the last 10 yrs.
I now feel the major hate again because I have started SUPing on the small days.
I feel like self defense fighting might happen if I try to stay at a certain spot. I surf this spot regular all the time for the last 25+ years. I have SUPed it all week with no problem, but last Sunday I was verbally assaulted, threatened, and told to leave. I stayed a bit to argue my case, fell on deaf ears, and things were escalating. I chose the high rode, and paddled away. I know many locals there, they have mixed feelings on the SUP. I find it fun as hell, and won't be chased off my point.
To set the record I won't SUP on any day over 2 ft....Won't go out in a big crowd....won't hog waves like I could...the day I was harassed, I had paddled for 45 min with out surfing any waves, just paddling for exercise. I then picked up only one wave, and was harassed. By a longboader.
If the world hates the SUP, then oh well, it is so damn fun, and the core exercise is unmatched. I will keep doing it.

^^ SUP get a really bad rap mainly because there are a lot of goons using them that dont know how to control them. So i quite understand the feeling of distain surfers show when they see an SUP in the line-up. If you can ride the board and control it i dont see a problem at all.
Most the tim i see SUPS in the water its borderline ridable and to be honest its days like that i wish i had one

But on the flip side i have seen a lot of guys using them that have no clue and are a hazzard.

I've seen SUPs out on days with a real swell - not massive, but significant enough.
The problem then is that the people on them have the ability to catch a wave, but really dont seem to be able to do anything about steering them. Once they're commited to a line - whether its directly towards the beach or along the face of the wave - thats it, thats the way their board is going
Having been on that trajectory once or twice, its damn scary knowing someone on a huge tanker of a board is screaming towards you and there's very little they can do about it.
Then again, I
am a shortboarder and I feel the shortboarders hate me too

If you really want to piss everybody off, get someone to tow you into a few waves on your SUP behind a waverunner

Hahahahahahahahaha - awsome

!
[ wipes tears from my eyes ! ]
When I went longboarding I'd pump the board and basically ride it like a short board

!
The shortboarders soon accepted the maniac on the lnogboard

!
And as a personal challenge I'd paddle like fury, catch a wave well before it breaks, do a few moves and then back off before the white stuff shows to let the shortboardes catch it from there on into the impact zone.
All was good.

SUPing, Longboarding or Shortboarding is the same. If a person does not have a clue on what they are doing, they should not be in a big lineup IMO. As for parrysurf's situation. It sure sounds like you should be fine in a lineup. Keep sweeping brotha!!!!!

I think that the hate between all riders is the dumbest thing. We are all out there because we love and enjoy the ocean and surfing. If you are curtious of everyone surfing around you who gives a d*mn what kind of board you are on.
I primarly ride a short board but bought a SUP for the super small days and it does not seem that bad where I am yet (NC) but I stay far away from everyone on that thing.

A few years ago I was surfing (Longboarding) Croyde, North Devon UK alledged hotspot,
A load grocks kept dropping in on me on every wave--mildly irratating,
so I paddles up to them all smiles and says 'Hey you guys are welcome to drop in on me me on any wave you like,
but when you get my skeg stuck up your ass-- and you will--it's your fault--hookay''-- more smiles from myself--
I paddles off!
those pratts never dropped in on me again EVER!!!
Ahhh the beauty of reverse psycholigy!!

So you SUP and feel that everyone in the lineup hates you,
That's probably because you hate yourself!!

its cause you sups take the waves dedicated to longboarders and shortboarders, i guess you can say the more popular spots are given to the majority, not the minority.
