This is the smaller sistership to the FP13 which is in Hawaii, the 12 footer design was first built in 1997.

We have been slowly building the necessary panels for the past few weeks and laminated the first two together on the rocker jig today.

Here's the fnished blank ready for shaping. Of course most of the shaping is done already, only about 15 hours of hand sanding to go.

Thanks, that's just a estimate of the shaping, not counting the resin coating, fin etc etc.

Next chapter. . .

I just heard that Garrett and co were teed up to have a go at pipeline today but they ran a teabag contest there so it was a no go area.

Anyway here's the first resin coat going on:

Roy, I recently saw some of your work on Youtube. Its cool to see someone keep surfing both traditional but innovative with wooden boards. The 17 footer looked surprisingly nimble and smooth. Almost makes me wonder If we can really call riding a 9 foot foam board longboarding! A 12 foot olo will probably fly. Although would a board with a fin still rightfully be called an olo? Ah, semantics...

Hi Cole,

Thanks for the compliment, the 17 footer is surprisingly nimble as you say, and is really fun to ride although it takes some nerve to take off on it even on a small wave, 65 pounds of board is like a live beast ! I've had some incredibly long rides on her. In the youtube videos I was only just getting to know the big board again after 18 months as she was in for reconstruction after some major damage.

LBM the new paulownia FP12 weighs in at 25 pounds, pretty similar to what the original 1997 solid balsa one weighed. Thanks for the kind words by the way !
