My griptape is dirty! ...Is there a way to clean it?

Postby DBBuzzkiller94 » Tue Feb 03, 2009 9:58 pm

Heyyyy,
It started when out on my longboard,i met a couple of my mates and one of them asked for a ride on my longboard which i couldn't really say no to, But when i got it back, it was covered in Mud !! .......I have been trying for ages to get it off, but nothing seems to work, and i cant use water because that will wreck the griptape even more.

So has anyone got any suggestions on what to do?......or do i have to buy more griptape? :?

there's a writeup in a transworld or something about how to clean your deck. it involves an old, firm bristle, toothbrush (or one that belongs to someone you don't like), some warm, slightly soapy water, and a big eraser. you just scrub the tape with the toothbrush and water. small circles, as little water as possible. blot up extra water with an old rag/towel. if there's still grime, you can go over it all with an eraser. never tried it before, i just kind of live with dirty grip tape. once i start to lose traction then it's time for new tape

Thank you again.

I have tried your tips and it seems to have worked, the griptape had already turned a lighter grey through water so it didn't make it any worse, to be honest, the only way to make your griptape look clean is to not get it dirty in the first palce !! :)

yeah...i think the eraser is supposed to get the film/grime from the water off. i don't know, i've never tried it before. maybe just try having a clean water supply to keep rinsing the brush off in so you don't just keep spreading the filth around..any pics before/after?
