leaving your board in the bag

I'm a new surfer. Just bought a longboard Billy Tolhurst 9.1. I got a new bag to carry it in. My question is after I've come back home, is it ok to leave the board in the bag all the time? It's still wet after 2 days and I'm not sure about mold and other things... What do you guys do?

Leave it in the bag mostly...

Rinse the saltwater after using it. Then keep it in the bag. If you keep it there youll protect it from dings and etc...
Most of the dings on boards occur out of the water.

I'm not concerned about the dings as much as mold etc from the water not evapourating. I live in Barbados so the humidity is always very high. Is it ok to leave it in the bag wet for weeks?

Here is what I do with all 3 of our boards.
1. surf in salt water
2. place in day bag when dry
3. drive home
4. hose boards with fresh water
5. place in bag when dry
6. store in family room

1.surf
2.rinse the salt in shower near the beach
3. go home with board in the bag
4. Leave it out of the sunlight, keep it in a dark place and put it horizontally so it won't get the force of gravity from standing.

2.get done and put it in the bag.
3. get home with board still in the bag and hang board and bag in garage. Salt water does not mildew.

Salt water does not mildew.

It can crystalize into salt and jam up your bag's zip though, if left for a while.

Ivory soap or any (real) soap bar (not a bath bar like zest etc.) rubbed on the zipper keeps it from jaming up and acts as a lube. It won't hurt anything and you don't have an oil film to worry about.

Talk about caring for your boards!!

Mine is surf, get changed chuck board in bag and hope it rots. Never does though and it is always just the same as before. But then it's an NSP and I'm hopin gone day it will disintegrate so I can convince the Mrs I need a new one!

Nice tip, I didn't hear of that before and one of the zippers on my board bag already sealed shut. I'm not sure if I have an ivory soap bars, anything else like maybe WD-40 to keep it working?

Water/plyers to open it?? let it dry and soap it up or try some dry lube (graphite) and work the zipper a few times,, done.

If you get a chance then taking it out the bag at some stage to let the bag dry would be a good thing (turn bag inside out as much as possible).

But that's a "do as I say, not as I do" kinda answer.

I give the board a wee dab down with my towel before it goes in the bag, but I never bother rinsing it or allowing it to dry out properly.

I love those boards (the look of them anyway).

I always leave my board in the bag, have never had mould. I would imagine that after a few surfs the inside of the bag is too salty to support much mould and would have too few nutrients for anything much.

Get a jar of sea water from your fave break and plonk it in a cupboard and watch what happens... I guess you'll be waiting a while!
