Surfing Waves

Hey guys/gals,
Found this board up for sale at a decent price. It's a hand shape Scott Raymond Henry board. Anyway, specs are 8' x 21" x 3, single wing bat tail, nose comes to a point with a subtle rocker, not much of a tail rocker, looks to be single concave- can't really tell? It's thick in the center and thins out pretty good towards both ends of the board. Thruster set up w/future fins. Could you guys provide some scoop on the capabilities of such a board, what kind of surf would it be best in, ability to perform any longboard actions (long carves, nose walking, catching waves early, etc...), or would it be surfed towards more of a short board style... sharper turns or whatnot? Would it work in smaller surf like a longboard and bigger surf like a gun? Not even sure how you would identify this board- gun, fun board, semi-gun? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It certainly is not going to perform as a longboard and not a short board nor a gun. It wont let you nose ride for sure. The only thing I can say is it will perform tighter turns then a long board and you maybe able to catch smaller waves with it but not like you would with a longboard.

I have no clue on what it is. Maybe the reason it is priced so reasonably

Fish,funboard,minimal ??????? Wow specs are nutty looks kinda like it would be a hybrid of all three. for sure will turn faster and float spec says it should catch waves easy but who knows take it out and try it. At least it's a nice looking stick and appears to have been shaped nice with a good fin setup.

Not sure if I'd take a risk with that realy...

Trying to categorise the board according to marketing terms won't help much.

I would put a singlefin on it and surf it to fiond out how it goes. The rocker looks good an the planshape is ok so it will definitely ride. The thruster setup is an added complication and source of drag so add a singlefin box and go for it.

^ yeah, i feel like a single fin with two removable biters is a more appropriate fin setup for that board, but who knows, the shaper may have something else intended with the thruster setup

I think it will surf like a fish with a bit more drive. It has fishy lines, then it cuts into that short board swallow tail. I like the out of the box shape...cool.

I too think it will flow better if it were a single fin...i still think it would be a snappy little wave catcher as it is set.

It looks like a typical 80's board just a bit longer, a great score.

the sooner people start using shortboard shapes in larger boards the better so that we can get away from the absolutely stultifying noseriding/malibu syndrome and realise that bigger boards should be treated as surfboards and watercraft rather than as ponderous pontoons for silly walks .
