I had a sureal experience last weekend....I went for some stand up paddle surfing action last Sunday during the storm, there were no waves, but I had to get out there to experience the artic conditions :

I did a write up about it for stand up paddle surfing UK. I can really recommend getting out into the water during a snow storm - everything goes really quiet, its a bit weird !

I know ! I bet you don't get days like that in San Diego ! I am coming over at the end of May for three weeks of surfing - I was over 10 years ago but I am bit out of touch - got any advice on where is good to go these days ?

 it snows up in the mountains its really surreal in winter as i can see the mountain peaks from where i live and while im out surfing i can see the white caps

Where to go larely depends on if there are any waves about

If there is surf then places of interest would be, the cliffs, blacks, swamis, San O, Scripps, to just name a few.... If there be no swell you better off on a nice beach break as most of our reefs produce zip in such conditions  End of may eh hope june gloom dont block your sunshine

went surfing in the snow for the first time last jan or feb. was wicked! was a bit apprehensive on the way there but the second i hit the water it was just special. wasn't flat tho so wasn't quiet. but defo surreal.
the second day was a bit more hardcore, changing into a wet wetsuit in the snow.... my favourite peice of anatomy is cowering just thinkin about it!! never changed so quickly.
where was the pic taken? never heard of Bracklesham.

Bracklesham is on the South coast of the UK and a bit of a open secret, the surf is either dire or excellent with not much in between, its really a winter break, but on my SUP I can get out loads more than on the surf board.

The picture was taken at Rustington which is further east.

It gets old quickly IMO. Kinda fun if it's small, but taking a good set on the head in 6 degree water temps is painful.

don't pay much attention to water temps so don't really know how cold it gets here.. but don't think it'll ever get old.
sitting around by the fire wishing for good weather and surf gets old before it begins!
freaky weather tho... was snow in dublin last weekend but hardly a flake on the west coast. friggin freezin tho.

hey hang11... you in nz... what the water temp like there? gettin a bit of the travel itch lately so just scopin out info on a few places. always fancied nz over oz. nothin against oz... just seems too much the done thing for irish folk and always like to choose the road less travelled.
