You get more flash from a shortboarder ripping apart a chest-high wave than Greg Knoll dropping into Pipe at 30 feet.

Excellent illustration! And it is so true! Even though I favor shortboarding I have preferred to watching longboarding since shortboarders ripping apart small waves doesn't really appeal to me that much! My whole perception to longboarding has changed.

If this SW meet hits off then im going to have to pinch somebodies longboard for a quick go if possible lol sounds like great fun :D

when you realy know how to surf, i think watching longboarding is alot better than watching shortboarding, when i first surfed i thought it was amazing with all that spray and the snappyness, but then i saw some people longboarding and it just seemed alot more like surfing, its hard to explain

I know what you mean blue, I feel the same way about it. Theres a lot of finesse in longboarding and it seems quite chilled and laid back! Im sure a longboarder could explain it much better!

I was thinking those remarks about wives, kids and mortgages weren't as accurate as they could have been... Guess I was thinking about my own crowd. Glad to know that the younger kids are into Longboarding as well, keep the stoke, keep the tradition!

Well..surely surfing started with some random local kids on pieces of trees bodyboarding? Eventually one stood up...

And I hope it doesn't end!

I would agree, it probably started out as a progression from a mode of travel to a mode of sport. Someone probably got real tired from paddling between islands and said, "shoot, maybe I can catch this wave and won't have to paddle so far..." So he/she did and probably had a good time doing it. That is basically how it got started in my view. The rest is history...

Nah don't agree at all. Shortboarding is a different breed. Different ride. Its nice o have a quiver to do both depending on the surf

I just realized, I didn't mean don't surf anything but Longboards when I said "Keep the tradition", I just meant keep it alive.

I've neevr ridden a short boar, guess it could be fun, but watching em is boring as hell.

Far far prefer watching some classic longboarding.
