I dont like it when people are constantly directed to the search button because something has been discussed before, here's why.

The word constantly shouldn't apply to being directed to the search button, often the direction is given after quite a lengthy thread by the original poster on a topic and the search option is given as more information!

Most regular posters also recieve PMs on topics that should be open the open forum for all to see and as an invitation for further discussion......

You might notice that topics like that are opened up.

There is an amazing amount going on, moderators try to keep the flow going and will often post links to similar threads or even links to other sites. As do longtime posters.

Rants are welcome and I don't think they feature in the search sections.

I love the traction pad on my longboard because it helps me step back to the perfect spot for carving turns. Just don't put it on like this.

40 dollars for a piece of plastic which likely cost a few dollars to make? No thanks. And yeah, pros use them, but they get royalties for their silly signature "pro" models.

If you want to know if your back foot is hitting the tail every time, only wax the tail and leave a big gap between the wax on the rest of the board If you fall off you'll know the reason.

Or I could have just written the word "Occy" and saved myself some time!

Back to the topic of a traction pad on a longboard, I've wondered if the 'ramp' at the back would have noticeable effect when nose riding, with the tail buried inside the wave?

Waikikichan, do you use a flatter tail pad, or just rock the ramp? Perhaps the 'ramp' would even lock the tail in, better?


I'm all focused on back-foot placement after finally getting back to the tail on my traditional heavy 9'8 log and learning to steer it from there. (now to smooth out that walk!). I'm not about to put a pad on the log, as for my purposes it seems both unnecessary and incongruent with the style of the board, but am looking for just the right tail pad for my 7'8" Stinger to refine my sense of back-foot placement, in case I ever get around to surfing it again (my new whole-board take on the log has me totally enraptured with it at the moment). I'm not yet slashing the mid-length around to any extent that would seem to 'require' a pad, but I'm all for useful training tools that might eventually become a performance booster.

If it equates to a rear wing on a race car to create more "down force", then no. It's the water wrapping over the tail/rails that locks you in ( and then allows you to hang off the front ). If anything, that 1 inch foam bump, kicks the water up versus letting the water hug the deck and flow over the opposite rail. That's also why most noseriders have soft 50/50 rails versus hard edges of a progressive board that sheers off the water.
But all my boards have a traction pad and i like a big kick. Not for the fore-mentioned lock down, but as a STEP that my toes and ball of the foot can stand on. To get that board to stand up vertical when I need to punch out of a closeout or avoid a kook. Dakine Bruce Irons has one of the biggest kick tails. The Astrodeck Fletcher dead stop is insane.
