Take-Off 9'6" Longboard

Postby CARBr6 » Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:05 am

Hi, I am just looking at getting my first ever board, and am very much looking forward to getting started on those sweet longboard rides!
The board I am looking at is a second hand Take-Off 9'6" Longboard.
Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they ok or should I steer clear?

Thanks

If the board is in reasonable condition, why not :!: Not sure about where they are constructed but could well be in Asia but as a secondhand firsty , does it matter!.
Compare price, condition to the cost of a new one to see if you are getting a fair deal.
It will require epoxy fixes for any repairs!
As for experience of one got no idea.

Hi,

I have no idea about the board, but how big, height and weight are you? 9'6 is a big board and will be relatively heavy and cumbersome to control in and out of the water.

I'm not huge, 5'8" around 175llbs but I like a big board to cruise on. I played with a 9'1" board this summer and had a blast just gliding. How much difference will the extra 5 inches make (no rude comments please  )

The full board dimensions are: 9' 6" x 23 1/2" x 3 1/4"

As for condition, there are some dings in the nose, the seller says they have been repaired ut I haven't seen for myself yet. Once the deal is struck then I'll go and take a look. In the meantime the price is £160

Jaffa's opinion, if you had a blast on 9'1" you might find 9'6" a little more cumbersome but nose riding and classical style surfing will be a breeze, the thickness is pretty maxed out but as a big single fin cruiser ok.
I rode a balsa 9'6" when I weighed about 140lbs as a youngster, no problems.
Get your turtle roll and paddle power up, you will probably be able to knee paddle it, and pass by everyone on the way out to the break
Be the first guy on your block to resurrect board bumps, surfers knots or whatever they were called in your area, very retro!
One thing does concern me don't do the deal before you see the board I'm serious about this bit of advice then if you like the board end of story.

Thanks for the info. Please excuse my ignorance, board bumps?
When I said do the deal, I meant agree that I am willing to travel down to look at it. I will not be exchanging cash money until I am satisfied.

Just looked up Surfer's Knots! (http://encyclopediaofsurfing.com/entries/surfers-knobs)
Doesn't look like fun, I think I'll leave them to the past thanks!

However, I could spend a little more and get one of these:
Local Hero 'THE ORIGINAL GLIDE'
9'2 x 23½ x 3¼

• flat and wide with 'V' through tail
60/40 rail & nose concave
• high volume
• single fin or 2+1 setup

I know of the Aussie shaper ,does good work this board might be a better proposition. Get to know the company too, maybe the English crew can advise you about the company!
I ride mainly 9'1" boards, I weigh 200lbs no problems.
Good hunting :D

So, it turns out to have been a productive weekend.
I am now the very proud owner of a Beach Beat 9'3" board shaped by none other than Chops Lascelles! Now I've just gotta wait for the waves to come and the water to get a bit warmer!
