Some people compare progressive longboarding to shortboarding, i think this is insulting to longboarders. Looks way cooler on a big log!! Enjoy!! :)

Keep posting that sort of stuff Kaossurfer, just show all the fashionable shortboard apologists, that good surfers can do all short board stuff on a longboard and more.

But keep it quiet, there's such a wider range available for boards.
Let the deluded fall short

...except fit their board in the car

I'm really impressed with this guy. It does make me laugh/weep when someone says "I want to do better turns so I'm going to get a shorter board".

I still can't longboard though :bang:

He seems to using a single fin with the way he's turning and then a thruster set-up in some cases.

Just wondering because I'm finding nice cutbacks and the tail release a bit difficult in a 2 + 1 as opposed to a single fin. Starting to think i should just single fin. Though am also worried a bit about hold with a 9" flex fin on bigger days. Would a stiffer 10" give more hold for bigger days in anyone's experience? Or perhaps tiny knobs like fish keels for a 2 + 1 instead of the standard size sidebites?

Pico Dane Pioli mainy rides three fins thruster set up, with a marginally larger centre fin. Read the fin primer so you can get an idea of what you can tweak to make your riding easier. I suspect a lot of your prohlem with the cut backs may be where you have the centre fin placed in the box. Try forward.
It is also probable that you are not committing enough speed to drive the turn but just trying to lay it over. You need speed it is agreed!. Most good surfers ad an average guy like me have a number of set ups to fit different surfs. Play with your set ups it is entirely about what works for you.

This is my ride, 9" centre and Bonzer FCS smaller of the quad set, note the concaves that make the bonzers work well. ride range 1ft to double overhead

I see I see. I have concaves too, am interested in trying the bonzers as well. Will look into it.

How high are those 2.5 inches or so?

Thanks for the pic.

Thought I'd post this link of longboard surfing from 1967 ( before short board surfing began to really happen)
There had been some changes in fin profiles and lighter stringerless boards had begun to become the norm.
This is for all those who think a longboard cannot be turned

BTW this was the roots of the sort of power surfing and drive from turns that underpins most Australian surfing.

Those Bonzer fins are the smaller of the quad set.. 2.5" as you guessed.
Just an awareness they are designed to work off specific bottom concaves so they may not be as effective as you might expect.

I had good results from C drive fins prior to the Bonzers. Pictures of C drives in Fin primer. :D

I love watching progressive longboarding but longboards should never be finned as a thruster imo. The crap helicopter move/ gimmick ruins it for me, it just looks terrible. If the longboard was finned 2+1 it would have more hold so the rear wouldn't pop out as much.

wow, surfers had a lot less muscle back in '67.
If they could surf like that, what is my excuse!
Surfing is not about standing up.
It's about the board - moving on the wave.
Standing up just happens to help.

Yes it was before obesity became the norm in both the US and Australia!
