pig shape?

OK. A board at the local shop caught my eye. It is a ten foot longboard with a glassed in fin. just wondering what a pig shape rides like? Any thoughts? Thanks, Jim.

Like a PIG, one of the reasons boards evolved was because some of the older boards could not do what surfers were wanting to do.
Depending on what you are calling a pig board there are limitations and benefits post a picture or a link and we can help you out with advice!
The Walden should be going well for you.
10 ft some advantages as it stands , easier than ever paddle in, ability to ride smaller waves and better for nose riding. Maybe even knee paddlable, get your first set of surfers knots or board lumps.
Set fin, you'll need to review your turning style.

Depending on the pig emphasis where the actual wide point and rail configuration different wave riding areas on the wave will available or not.

Basically the advances of surfboard design allowed the masses to become better at surfing than the whole of generations before, I think the modern longboard has much more to offer than the old time boards

I am curious to what you think of modern longboard design Jaffa. What do you think of the high-performance longboards with the pulled in tails?

I like some designs which fit my beliefs about what I want to do on a wave, with an emphasis towards being highly manouvreable and solid enough to have a sweet acceleration spot or trim spot and the ability to support me if I choose to nose ride. Good modern boards have all that.
I think the first analysis should be; How do I want to ride ? and what board supports that?

I caution against retro and old designs rehashed, as if you think about it they were abandoned for improved models ( maybe).
Much of the design statements IMO are spiel for glossy advertisements rather than an actual benefit on the board and so many are generics of each other.

Oh a question so I can answer further Ricky rough etc. which sort of pulled in tails are you talking about?
