Thru-the-deck leash plug

Postby Rodrigo » Tue Oct 11, 2011 6:25 pm

hello friends

i recently bought a new custom longboard, looks great but I need help on one minor point.

The leash plug is a thru-the-deck type. basically it's a hole drilled from deck to finbox. I'm wondering the best way to attach the leash here. Just thread the nylon rope thru the hole and let the knot hold it in place?

Im wondering as well if I can get my centre fin all the way back if i do that. the knot will stop me being able to slide the fin right back the maximum it can go towards the tail.

any help or suggestions, or better way to do it ?

many thanks
rodrigo

Hello,
Yes the knot in the fin box is correct. Just make sure the leash rope is not to small as you do not want it to pull through. If you can't slide your fin all the way back that is okay. The hole should be near the back of the box anyway, so butt the fin against the fin rope knot and that should be fine. Some say that you never want the fin all the way to the back of the box anyway, because if you run into something the fin will have no give and you can damage the fin box. If having the fin all the way back is needed for more stability, you can always get a bigger fin.

This is a bit of an old thread but I have found that tying some dental floss around the pre knotted leash tie and pulling it through the plug hole works better than trying to use the surfing tools to push the leash tie through.
