7'-8" Mini Mal

Postby teaweed » Sat Feb 14, 2009 7:16 pm

This is a 7'-8" mini mal that I got from a local shaper here in Jacksonville Beach, FL. My previous board, had similar dimensions, but we talked about making something w/ the same outline, but more performance oriented. He suggested putting a round tail, more rocker, and asked me if I wanted to experiment w/ a quad-fin setup (previous board had a single fin), and here it is:

I can't wait to try this out, see how well it'll turn for a board of this type. Our waves here are uncooperative though.

A quad mini-mal? Craziness!!

But, hey, you gotta try these things out :D

Looks sweet. Shame you have to put wax on such a pretty new board! Have fun, and let us know how you get on.

Hey, you only live once :D

This shaper's forte are 9'+ longboards, and most of them he makes w/ quad-fins... the one he rides himself are quad, so I figured, what the heck. I'll post an update of how it rides, as soon as we get some waves here.

Pertty board. If you wanted a board with rocker, you got it. From a couple of your photos it looks like the nose is really turned up. How did it ride?

Hey, I ride a quad fish, no one says anything weird even though they all started as twin fins.

I like the idea of a quad mal, should have uber glide

I haven't really had a chance to test it in the best of conditions to give a fair description, but it is pretty loose. I am used to putting a lot of effort into the bottom turn of my old single fin, and w/ this one, i crashed right into the face as i bottom turned.

Overall, I need to take it out on cleaner days to give a better description. It seemed a little too floaty and squirrelly, but maybe it's just because of the waves that day.
