longboard question

Postby surfernoob » Thu Mar 13, 2008 5:37 pm

i'm planning to get my first longboard, been riding a minimal and shortboard and never ridden anything thats 8'6. I'd say I'm an intermediate surfer. The board i want is 2 5/8" thick and I'm 140lbs and wondering if thats thick enough to handle nose rides and all the neat things people do on longboards. I'm almost positive it is, just that my mini is 2 7/8" thick and find it a little discomforting that a longboard i really want is a little thinner. I figure the extra length will make up for it? any experience with riding boards around these sizes would help as I haven't ridden many boards except the two I have and a couple lenders. thanks

Board thickness

Don't worry so much about the thickness for noseriding. You should look at width and the nose outline. The wider boards are more stable to walk on the nose, less pitch. Also wider boards are easier to paddle with a flat to moderate rocker.
