hi,

Does anyone know anything about billabong surfboards (shaped by robert vaughn) its just cuz i am interested in him and alot of people use them. Is he a good shaper?? whats positive about him?? and whats his negatives?? (thats if he has any)

well almost all shapers will make you a good board. the thing is, some have more experience which will also bung the price up for a board, possibly by £100s, are you looking at getting a custom board from him? or a board ready shaped/off the shelff. i don't know anything about him but should be a good shaper. i have had a board shaped by Beach Beat which i loved and still do love.

Heard a lot off good things about JP recently and prices aren't too bad.

Beach Beat too.

Problems with the bigger companies sometimes and some of the better know shapers is that they do little of the shaping themselves.

They may cut out from thee template, then thats it till its shaped, they then sign it and mark out the fin position and thats them done.

Just what i've heard.

I say beach beat first because a really good surfer i know got a board shaped recently and it flies, JP just cos i get to talk to a few in the game that know them, and they are generally nice guys and can make a nice allrounder for UK waves and have test boards if you can make it to thr mumbles.

Last couple of days been riding an O'Shea custom, made in Newquay, there nigel semmens boards are ok. Designed by not necceserilly shaped by him.

When it picks up a little will be giving the Stretch Nathan Fletcher Quad a good thrashing. I was proper hitting thr lip last night shame there wasn't a few more foot. Next week?

well, it's totally up to you, make a few phone calls, pop into shops if possible, look on websites and ask around. some shapers specially design longboards some specially design retro boards...etc...although most can design all boards they normally have a speciality, so could be worth finding out some info before hand...

as for prices, JP have reasonable prices, just like 'Odd surfboards' another shaper near me they have good prices as well as good boards. as i have a Beach beat and have had an 'Odd' board i love both but have also heard great things about JP as well as a load of other uk shapers, just less well known which means you'll get great prices and a great board (sometimes around £100-£200 cheaper than a well known shaper)

so make sure you know you aren't buying with a 'bad' company and you'll be fine

JS makes some lovely board. The Parko model is one of my favourite. Be warned though, they are weak as a potato chip and ding easily. But they are awesome when you surf them.

I've owned a Beach Beat (Cornwall not Queensland) before and it the biggest pile of shite I've ever ridden. I bust it after about 6 sessions by knocking my bare foot on one the the fins and it split the whole box and mashed the foam around it. My foot hardly felt it! Basically shite build quality and I didn't like the shape.

I've used a Matt Barrow board for a few days before and really liked it. Good build and shape.

I've just bought an Adams and I like the shape and the build seems ok but its early days really.

Don't know about the others, never tried them.

hey, anyone know anything about luke short (lsd boards), whats julian wilson rides?

I have a Beachbeat, 6`8" flyer. I like it, seems strong has`nt broken yet and i`ve used it in some right 5hite shore breaks .

Black and White are nice boards. Based in north Devon i think?.
